2009 Holiday Deadlines for Glittering Goods

As the holidays will be creeping up upon us, here's my shipping cut-offs for getting some glittering holiday goods from my jewelry collection.

***Holiday Deadlines:

Dec 7th is the last day I will ship within Canada via Canada Post prior to Christmas; and Dec 4th is my shipping deadline for orders to the US and Overseas prior to Christmas. Ok, so let's back track (approx 10 business days to create your custom order). Nov 20th is the last day I will accept a custom order for Christmas. Pressed for delivery time frames, perhaps we can make an arrangement for Express Shipping (or a Special Delivery)...Or I can create something for you for a special birthday, a special event, or for Valentines Day (Feb 14th).

It's never too early to think about Valentines Day!

Say it isn't so...Price Increase Memo

Nobody likes price increases(including me), unfortunately...the time has come.

As you’ve noticed, prices of precious metals have been on the rise for the last two months (on the positive side, I suppose it's a good thing if you are holding some stocks). The current silver price stands at $17.80/oz, and gold price at $1060/oz and is still continuously rising. As a result, I have no choice but to increase my prices: roughly 10% price increase on all designs will occur as of November 1st,2009.

So grab your chance now and purchase all your designs before prices go up. Take advantage of this time to place your holiday orders and beat the rush...the holidays will be here before you know it!

Hello dear friends and followers,

Have you ever wondered where you can find that unique, special item that you have always wanted, but never found...perhaps it was something you saw in a magazine, or something a stranger was wearing, or simply something that you imagined...and thought would be so cool...if you finally found it? Well, guess what...Etsy.com might be the perfect spot to find that special "handcrafted" item...the so called lost item that you never owned...until you saw it, and absolutely had to have it "item". Not only do I sell on Etsy {cbdesignstudio.etsy.com}, I have become an avid Etsy shopper in less than 6 months! Yes, it's true and very dangerous. When I need something "or think I need something" I search on Etsy first, then eBay and Kijiji, before hitting the local shops. I have to admit, I love finding great items online.

Namaste (nahm-ah-stay): Greeting often heard in yoga classes. Roughly translated to honouring the light within you and me. When the light within you and me greet each other, we are one.
*Yoga term referenced from AOL health website.

A Simple 5/8” (17mm) in diameter sterling silver circular charm is lovingly hand stamped with the word ‘NAMASTE’ in my lower case fonts, the letters are oxidized to enhance the contrast, and finished with a quality polish. A Prelude To The Mamas

A prelude to all the classy & fabulous mamas out there...yup, even if you don't think you are one. Trust me, you are!

Recently, I was emailed a great story {from yoyomama.ca} that pretty much sums up "life of a mommy", and seeing that Mother's Day is just around the corner, I thought it would be fitting to share this article with all my mommy friends.

How much juggling can one mama do? You are not just the CEO of Laundry, Keeper of the Family Calendar, CFO of the Family Budget and Director of Hugs, Kisses and Cuddles but much, much more - and alas, most of it doesn't come with fancy titles. And so, for Mother's Day this year we wanted to let you know just a few of the things that we appreciate about mums (IE. you!):

You willingly stay up late with a sick child, but sometimes when your child wakes up crying in the night you pretend you don't hear them in hopes your better half with get up and go in to them.

Sometimes you feel undervalued and overtired. Okay, oftentimes.

You painstakingly cut up grapes for a snack so your child doesn't choke, but there are times that you don't have time or inclination to cut up grapes and just grab some crackers.

The choices you make - cloth or disposable diapers, breastfeed or bottle, Montessori or public school - are the right choices for your family.

Doing the laundry - again! - can make you feel like Sisyphus

Some days you can be a bit nicer to your kids than you feel, but not necessarily a lot nicer.

The days can seem very, very long while the years seem to fly by.

And what do we appreciate the most? The fact that, no matter how you feel in your darkest, most frustrated moments, you are doing a bang up job. So go ahead, trust your instincts, give yourself a pat on the back and lower your standards a little. Trust us, the bar will still be set incredibly high.

What is FA?

Fanconi Anemia (FA), first described in 1927 by a Swiss pediatrician Guido Fanconi, is the most common of the inherited anemias that lead to progressive, severe bone marrow failure, also known as aplastic anemia. The effects of the disease are devastating, leaving patients weak, prone to severe bleeding due to insufficient blood clotting and susceptible to infection. FA is a genetic disorder that occurs equally in males and females and is found in all ethnic groups. Though considered primarily a blood disease, it may affect all systems of the body. A Fanconi Anemia patient often, but not always, has other physical defects detectable at the time of birth ranging from minor to serious. Patients are also at an increased risk for developing leukemia and other cancers. Many children do not survive to adulthood.

How is FA diagnosed?

FA usually reveals itself when children are between the ages of 3 and 12, but in rare cases no symptoms are present until adulthood. Some babies are diagnosed at birth but some FA patients undoubtedly are never correctly diagnosed. The most common test to detect FA is called the Chromosome Breakage Test. The chromosomes in the cells of FA patients when studied in the lab, break and rearrange easily. Scientists do not yet understand the reason for this chromosome breakage, but can use it as a diagnostic test for the disease, if FA is suspected. This test involves just a blood sample from the patients where the stability of the chromosomes under the addition of destructive agents will indicate FA.

These unique designs are exclusive items in my shop. The Inukshuk design stamp has been created as a ‘one of a kind’ exclusive design stamp for Carmen Bowe’s hand stamped jewelry collection. You will not find this ‘Inukshuk’ design stamp in another shop.

This design features an Inukshuk symbol hand stamped in the centre of a high quality (20 gauge) thick sterling silver charm (or adorned with a Swarovski crystal pearl drop). The sterling silver charm is 7/8” in diameter and floats effortlessly against an 18” ‘Made in Italy’ sterling silver double ball chain or ball chain necklace (it’s your choice!).

This design is hand stamped with the words:
CANADA.FRIENDSHIP.UNITY

For customization: I can accommodate up to 24 characters in my smaller font alphabets. Letters can be oxidized (blacken) or left non-oxidized (raw-silver tone). Please contact me via convo with your special request, and let’s see if it will work.

Long ago, in Northern Canada, the Inukshuk was customarily used as a navigational guides to travelers. Creating jewelry has been an incredible journey...being able to transform an idea into a wearable piece of art is truly a special job for me. I enjoy creating special designs for people from all over the world and hearing about all the beautiful stories behind each jewel piece. I am blessed and truly honoured to have something I made, be worn by others. Many thanks to all my friends, family and clients for the opportunity for allowing me to create something truly meaningful for them.

I am always sporting a piece of jewelry that celebrates my family; it's become sort of a "good luck charm" for me, as well as for many other moms I know. I realize everyone wants something a little sentimental, something that is theirs and theirs alone. Something special that you can't just pick up at your local mall. Carmen Bowe jewelry is just that...custom pieces, as special and as unique as the person wearing the jewelry.

Embrace The Warmth Of Copper

Copper has become a new favourite metal of mine. If you love the look of gold, but hate the price, copper is an affordable alternative which also gives a beautiful warm glow. People often question how well copper keeps, and if copper will turn. Copper oxidizes by tarnishing, the same way that sterling silver tarnishes and the way iron rusts. It's a natural progression and the environment determines how rapidly it will happen. Oxidization progresses faster in high humidity, but the effect of oxidation is also affected by one’s body chemistry. The effect is different for everyone, one person may wear copper every day and never have it turn, and another person may wear it for one day and it may oxidize. Similarly, one can oxidize sterling silver in one day as well. Sterling silver is a metal alloy of silver (92.5%) and copper (7.5%). The addition of copper to silver makes it stronger. It is the copper in the alloy that causes sterling silver to tarnish. People are different, thus is the reason why the same perfume may smell different on everyone…again symbolizing that we are all a little different through our body chemistry. Although, I'm not an expert, there is a lot of subjective evidence to propose copper metals may also help people reduce arthritis pains.

Bringing out the shine in copper:

If your copper oxidizes, all you have to do is rinse it about in a small container of water and a squirt of lemon juice, along with a pinch of salt to bring out the bling again. Finally, you can polish your copper with a jewelry polishing cloth. When not worn, remember to keep your copper jewelry in an air tight container or bag (mini zip lock bags will do the trick)…this will help slow down the oxidation.

Keep your bling in tip top shape!

Tips on keeping your jewelry in 'tip top' shape:

*Always put on your jewelry last and avoid direct contact with beauty products (perfume and body lotions).
*Always store your jewel pieces away from direct sunlight, in an air tight container or bag. Mini zip lock bags are perfect. This helps to prevent tarnish. Store your sterling and gold jewelry in separate bags before putting into your jewelry boxes.
*Finally, you can polish your jewelry with a polishing cloth; just make sure that it is safe for your jewelry. Some polish can damage stones and remove the oxidation in the letters…so we don’t want that to happen. Read the care instructions on the polishing cloth to be certain.

For normal everyday wear:

I design my jewelry to endure normal everyday wear; however, I don’t recommend my jewel pieces to be worn while sleeping, showering, exercising or partaking in any strenuous physical activity. My jewelry is Not Recommended for those under 3 years of age.

***Not for Under 5 years:

Jewelry by Carmen Bowe is Not Recommended for those under 5 years of age. I do my best to make my jewels sturdy, but the findings, Swarovski crystals and pearls are small and I don’t want you to take any chances. Upon purchase, Buyer acknowledges that Carmen Bowe is not responsible for any accidents.

Holiday Deadlines for Glittering Holiday Goods

Happy Holidays, here's my shipping cut-offs for getting some glittering holiday goods from my jewelry collection.

***Holiday Deadlines:

Dec 10th is the last day I will ship within Canada via Canada Post prior to Christmas; and Dec 3rd is my shipping deadline for orders to the US and Overseas prior to Christmas. Ok, so let's back track (10-15 business days to create your custom order). Nov 21st is the last day I will accept a custom order for Christmas. Pressed for delivery time frames, perhaps we can make an arrangement for Express Shipping (or a Special Delivery)...Or I can create something for you for a special birthday, a special event, or for Valentines Day (Feb 14th).

It's never too early to think about Valentines Day!

***Please Note:

Unfortunately, due to possible delays at customs, I cannot guarantee on time Christmas delivery for any International Shipments (US & Overseas).

I am a very fortunate mom of two beautiful girls(my inspirations!). The heart of every design begins with flair and passion, and is later transformed into a unique jewel with pure expression. My forte is in hand stamped mommy brag necklaces and bracelets, birth date charms, personalized jewelry and accessories. Adornments of Swarovski crystals and pearls are included in the price of the custom jewel. Jewelry by Carmen Bowe is created using quality sterling silver and copper metals with Swarovski crystals and pearls.

Uniqueness and Charm:
All pieces are lovingly hand stamped by me, letter by letter, number by number, with the utmost in care. I work hard to ensure that spacing and alignment are as close to perfection as possible, however please expect slight variances. The stamping may not always be perfectly straight, aligned or at the same depth and should not be viewed as a design flaw, but rather a symbol of its uniqueness and charm.

Shipping Time Frame:
Due to order volumes, please allow up to 7-15 business days following payment for your custom jewelry order to be shipped(If I can send it out to you earlier, I will). If you need your order sooner, please contact me to see if we can expedite the delivery.

Holiday Orders:
Please think ahead to ensure adequate shipping time frames are met for your Holiday Gifts. As the season of gift giving quickly approaches, delays may occur at the Postal Office due to higher shipping volumes. Please note that orders are shipped from Ontario, Canada.
